Gabriel Corrigan - Teaching & Outreach

I simply love teaching and communicating mathematics. Most rewardingly, I am involved with the Maths Beyond Limits (MBL) organisation, which runs a series of annual mathematical camps in Poland for enthusiastic and talented high school students. I have given lecture courses (details at the bottom of this page) at each MBL 2022-2024, and each MBL Balkans 2023-2025, which is a sister camp held in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

MBL provides a friendly and fun (and free!) environment in which to explore the varied world of mathematics, often introducing high school students to university-level mathematics (or beyond!) and fosters a philosophy of making connections with like-minded maths enthusiasts from across the world. I also worked as a supervisor at the University of Warwick, and currently work as a tutor and demonstrator at the University of Glasgow.

I also offer private tutoring. I have delivered the complete A-Level Further Maths curriculum, and also offer help for Chemistry and Physics up to A-Level standard. In addition, I have experience helping with mock interviews for Mathematics at Oxford & Cambridge, and with preparing for the STEP papers. Widening participation and access to mathematics is incredibly important. As well as MBL, other initiatives with which I have been involved include:

Sutton Trust Summer Schools - I worked as a tutor at STSS in Cambridge in 2021-22.
Zero Gravity - this is a startup which supports pupils in low-opportunity areas in the UK through the application process via a variety of methods. I volunteered as a Mentor for three years, supporting my mentees in their applications for Maths and Maths with Physics at Cambridge and Oxford, including writing of personal statements, preparation for interview, and helping with content for A-Levels and entrance exams.
Student Outreach Ambassador for maths at Cambridge - I was a student member of the outreach team for the Faculty of Mathematics at Cambridge for three years. One activity in this capacity: I gave a series of classes at a local high school, introducing GCSE students to extra-curricular mathematics.
Outreach for Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge - helping with various summer schools, tours, and other events and outreach activities as a student ambassador.
Mock interviews for maths at Oxbridge - interviews can be a daunting experience, especially with the stories that get bandied about surrounding them. I am happy to offer interview advice and mock interviews (free of charge for state-educated students). I also recommend getting in contact with Izaak Fairclough for this sort of thing - he's very experienced with these!
Other schools outreach - I often give extra-curricular maths lessons at my old school, designed to engage pupils with the weird, wonderful, varied, and fun world of mathematics that the school curriculum doesn't allow. I have also participated in delivering a Royal Institution Mathematics Masterclass in Glasgow.
STEP support - I have helped pupils at various stages of the process of taking STEP, the entrance exams for maths at Cambridge (and now some other universities too). I helped with the STEP Support webinars, the STEP State School Offer-Holders' Day, and provided some video solutions to STEP questions for the STEP Support Programme (which is a fantastic programme, by the way!)
I also recently worked as a tutor at the She Talks Science STEP Summer School for Girls 2025.
